Chewing Gum & Popsicle Sticks
With a thriving network of 65,000+ professionals and a packed event calendar, A Jobs List faced a challenge. They needed a professional website for their network, but as Co-founder Mabel Chan laughingly put it, their site was "held together with chewing gum and popsicle sticks!"
Their frustratation was understandable! Mabel & team were struggling with an incomplete Wordpress site that was difficult to navigate and even harder to update.
In a small org without budget for a full time web master, a user friendly web platform they can learn and update on their own is crucial. I advised building a new site on Wix, because the platform allows significant creative control, while still maintaining an intuitive interface for novice users. Additionally, my experience has been positive and speedy when working with Wix customer service. I felt confident recommending this platform for my clients' business needs.

Information Architecture
When I started on the project the current site was launched.. however it was less than 40% complete. But the skeleton of the site was there, which was a perfect blueprint for us to get started.
I discussed with Mabel how the site could work, and how it should work. From that discussion we got a list of features to add, features to remove, and features to consider.
Style Guide
Color Palette
With a well-crafted logo already in place, it was a matter of expanding the palette and adding an accent color or two (like cobalt blue).
Typography
Helvetica is an approachable font with a clean, professional feel that aligns well with A Jobs List's tech-savvy voice.
Custom Icons
A set of custom icons using AJL branding colors strategically located to help users maintain a sense of where they are in the site.
The Site That Was
Without a fully functional website, mission critical business operations are deeply impacted. Brand loyalty
is weakened in visiting users, in turn lead generation is diminished and revenue is lost.
Welcome to A Jobs List
With a color palette designed to evoke sincerity, confidence, and prosperity; prominent call to action buttons, and subtle animations, users are welcomed into a vibrant community full of opportunities to participate and connect.
Featuring an embedded event calendar, custom contact forms and targeted content, ajobslist.com is designed to showcase AJL's rolling event calendar, and funnel new clients into the network through type-specific conduits.
Onward & Upward
The AJL site now has a softer learning curve, empowering the team to manage it effectively on their own and preserve capital for other aspects of their business, while they continue to build their online strategy.
